SUMMARY OF RESULTS
There are multiple aspects that were accomplished in this report, including determining the service loads, designing the roof and floor deck design, and creating structural drawings and a 3D model of the building. The drawings and models were developed using AutoCAD and include the structural frame orientations, bracings, and elevations needed for further analysis (See Appendix B). The roof decking was selected to be 1.5B-B24 with a deck weight of 1.46 psf and the floor decking was selected to be 1.5VL20, along with a 3.5" concrete slab, with a deck weight of 2.14 psf (See Appendix D). The roof/floor dead and live loads as well as the service loads calculated in Appendix C are summarized below in Table 1.
The results for truss member selection is found in Table 2 from Appendix F. Based on the principal truss members selected in Appendix F, a cost analysis is conducted for the design of a single truss in Appendix G. The total cost for both trusses, tabulated in Table 3, is $11,553.24.
The cost bonus was attempted by our group and were able to reduce the cost of both trusses from $11,533.24 to $8,924.07, saving $2,609.17 on the design of the trusses. This work can be found in the Extra Credit Optimized Truss Design.
The results of the structural member selection and connection design are summarized in Table 4a and 4b. The Cost summary of the structural system is found in Table 5. Both tables 4 and 5 can be found in Appendix M. The total cost for the gravity system is $88,971.39.
The final results of the entire project are summarized in Table 6. The total cost of the entire project is $100,524.63.
